The Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, also called Rhodes or Malta, were a chivalric religious order born around the first half of the 11th century in Jerusalem, named after St. John the Hailman. The members of the order were also called giovanniti or gerosolimitani. Afterwards the first crusade it became a Christian chivalric religious order, endowed with its own statute, according to the custom of the time.
