Pottery

In Italy the production of artistic ceramics, or for common use, has ancient origins and each region of our country has its own characteristic and exclusive ceramics which by tradition, shapes, decorations and high quality standards are recognized and appreciated world-wide.

The term "ceramic" derives from the ancient Greek term "Keramos" which means "clay" or "earthenware"

and has roots that are linked to the verb "to burn" which refers to the firing to which the artifacts are subjected, in fact in ancient times the processing of these objects, at the time mostly kitchen utensils, took place by putting them in direct contact with fire.

The processing phases of this ductile and manageable material involve such a quantity of variables that every ceramist, once he has found the method that best suits him, applies it to his entire production and passes it on to subsequent generations, therefore every "shop" it is characterized by a peculiar and exclusive style to which belongs a cultural and artistic heritage.

Italy is full of cities that are specialized in this type of production, each one with its own distinctive and recognizable feature.
